Our Story

shafer springs farm
Our little boy Sawyer and his Papaw taking a break after a hard day of work on the farm.

We never really planned to find ourselves in the beard products business: it just sort of slowly grew on us.

In 2014 we moved to the hills and woods of middle Tennessee, finally chasing down the dream of living on our own little slice of heaven at Shafer Springs Farm.

Like other small farms, we’re aiming to carve our own little niche with natural, handmade products such as Brawn that harken back to a simpler way of life.

Progress is an amazing thing but simpler can be better, especially for personal care products such as beard balm, soap, and lotions.

We’re putting our Web know-how and love of natural, hand-crafted products to work to make and sell things like Brawn beard balm, our Boss beard oil, and a ton of other soaps and creams that are available on our Shafer Springs Farm website.

We do it all ourselves, from soup to nuts, right up to the point where we hand off your package to our little home town post office on the historic square of Charlotte, TN.

The Shafers- Seth, Sarah, and Sawyer!

We donate a percentage of all sales to Gigi’s Playhouse in Nashville and the Down Syndrome Association of Middle Tennessee — two non-profits that are near and dear to our hearts that serves individuals of all ages with Down Syndrome.

Our long-term goal is to turn the farm into a profitable, self-sustaining business that provides a range of employment opportunities for teens and adults with Down syndrome.

Each tin of Brawn and bottle of Boss we sell puts us one step closer to that goal — thank you!
