It’s a snap to learn how to use beard oil and can help you get a healthier, fuller beard.

Don’t just start slapping it on, though. You’ll need to follow a few simple tips to make sure you get the most out of your beard oil.

The biggest mistake many men make when first using an oil is to apply too much.

Quality beard oils are packed with conditioning and moisturizing oils and a little bit will go a long way.

How to Use Beard Oil in 3 Easy Steps

Step 1: Take a shower. The best time to apply both beard oil and beard balm is right after a shower.

Believe it or not, your shower style can also impact your beard. Try to avoid long, scorching hot showers as that can irritate the skin on your face.

Towel dry your beard after showering and try to get any excess water out. It should be damp when applying beard oil but not dripping wet.

Step 2: Apply a bit of oil to the palm of your hand. You can apply beard oil directly to your beard but we recommend that you start by using the hands-on method until you have a good handle on how much oil your beard needs.

Rub the oil between the palms of your hand and then work into your beard. We prefer the top down method — adding oil to the top of your mustache and beard and stroking it down to the tip of your beard — but some men go bottom-up.

The basic principle is the same. Transfer the beard oil from your fingers and hands into your beard so that it is evenly distributed.

Step 3: Once you’ve worked the oil into your beard, comb or brush your beard. We prefer to use a wooden beard comb but some men prefer a brush.

Some oil will collect on your comb or brush so many men will use a dedicated comb or brush for their oil and balm.

Some men comb their beard up from the bottom first, then comb it back down in the style they prefer.

Depending on your hair type, your beard may be slightly oily looking right after applying beard oil. That’s to be expected and oils will quickly absorb into your beard hair and start working their magic.
